Sometimes, organizations turn to PR stunts to attract attention, but PR stunts backfire almost as often as they succeed, so proceed with caution.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have any proof that the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/220218\/its_a_hoax_anonymous_did_not_threaten_westboro_baptist_church.html#tk.hp_new\">Westboro Baptist Church drafted its own hoax<\/a> threat from Anonymous as a public relations stunt. But, let&#8217;s assume for a minute that it did. Anonymous has been in the headlines already&#8211;from the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/212701\/operation_payback_wikileaks_avenged_by_hacktivists.html\">hacktivism in defense of Wikileaks<\/a> to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/220209\/lessons_learned_thanks_to_hbgary_and_anonymous.html#tk.hp_new\">takedown of information security firm HBGary<\/a>.
